What is a Biokineticist?
We are healthcare providers that specialise in human movement and exercise.
We prescribe physical activity to promote health and quality of life, rehabilitate injuries, aid in managing certain chronic illnesses or conditions and assist in improving the different components of fitness and sports performance.
Life Through Movement
comes from a combination of the words
'bio' meaning life and 'kinetics' translated to movement.
As a profession we are focused on health promotion, maintenance and improvement of physical abilities and involved with physical rehabilitation. We do so by relying on scientifically-based, physical activity program prescription.
An official announcement of the registration of the profession of Biokinetics as a health discipline within the South African Government Gazette on the 9th of September 1983, acknowledged as a profession on the professional board of medical sciences of the South African Medical and Dental Council (SAMDC), which was later renamed the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
